ed bunchShortly after Sonoran News went to press Wednesday morning, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors named attorney and businessman Ed Bunch to the Arizona State Senate to replace former Sen. Jim Waring in Legislative District 7, encompassing northeast Phoenix and Scottsdale. Waring resigned his seat to run for the U.S. Congress.

CAVE CREEK – On Feb. 3, Town Engineer Wayne Anderson sent a letter to Tim Phillips, chief engineer/general manager, Maricopa County Flood Control (MCFCD) explaining how the rain storms on Jan. 21, 22 and 23 sustained a high flow of up to 13,000 cfs for a long duration in Cave Creek Wash.   More...

phs dan marchandSCOTTSDALE – Phoenix Herpetological Society (PHS) Chairman Russ Johnson displays two of the 20 Ball Pythons from Africa, and Curator Dan Marchand gives a shoulder rest to one of the 50 Chinese Water Dragons received in Dallas, Texas, on Feb. 4 and transported immediately back to PHS. Johnson and Marchand rescued approximately 600 “animals” (mammals, reptiles, amphibians and arachnids) from a holding facility of the Dallas Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).    More...
