CAVE CREEK – The Foothills Food Bank will be moving to a new larger location at the first of the year to accommodate the growing number of clients who have begun using its services since the downturn in the economy.

foodbank“We will be doubling our space,” food bank executive director Pam DiPietro said.

The food bank will move into a 1,000-foot space formerly held by Animal Health Services in the center where Enterprise car rentals is now located on Jan. 1, 2009.

The new address will be 6920 E. Cave Creek Road. Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to noon Monday - Wednesday, 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday. The phone number is 480-488-1145.

The move to the new location on the north side of Cave Creek Road just west of Binkley’s and Cave Creek Building Supply will give the food bank more visibility as well as more space.

Last December the food bank had approximately 65 clients. It has averaged between 140 to 150 clients the last three months.

“We are overwhelmed,” DiPietro said of the 47 new food bank clients who signed up from early to mid-December.

“Now we are hearing someone just lost their job and their family needs food,” DiPietro said about a typical new client.

Anyone wanting to donate food or money to the food bank should call the number above.
