CAVE CREEK – Desert Foothills Theater (DFT), a division of the Foothills Community Foundation, kicks off its new season with “The Rocky Monster Show” set for Thursday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31 in the intimate Black Box Theater of Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center, 33606 N. 60th Street, in North Scottsdale.

The special DFT Gecko Teatro youth theater production features a cast of emerging artists ages eight through 15 and promises to deliver fun and laughter to the entire family.

Directed by Petey Swartz, with musical direction by Kevin Glenn, this innovative "monster rock musical" is a riotous mix of the Addams Family, Young Frankenstein and Phantom of the Opera, with The Munsters and The Rocky Horror Picture Show thrown in for good measure.

“We’re thrilled to start the season by showcasing our community’s young talent,” Petey Swartz said. “Bring your entire family and come prepared to laugh and sing along with all the fun and funky "ghoulies" in the show!"

The show tells the story of how Baron Frankenstein's descendant, an ex-pop star who is now a professor of genetics, created DNA molds of people in his computer. When the molds miraculously come to life as the ultimate Rock Group, headed by a clone of Elvis himself, hilarity abounds. The Rock 'n' Roll score, much of which is an affectionate send-up of the 1960s, overflows with fabulously fun “hip” tunes.

Show times for The Rocky Monster Show are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28; 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29 and 30; and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Tickets cost $16 per adult and $10 for students.

Special Kid’s Meal Deal
Big Earl’s Greasy Eats will also show its support for DFT by offering a special Kid’s Meal Deal of “Bloody Fingers and French Fries” for $6 from noon to 2 p.m. during the popular “Cave Creek Wicked” event on Saturday, Oct. 30. The meal, which consists of hot dogs and ketchup made up to look like bloody fingers, also includes a sneak preview of the show, with DFT Gecko Teatro actors performing at 12:45 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Big Earl’s Greasy Eats is located at 6135 E. Cave Creek Rd. in Cave Creek. Adults can also view the sneak preview for $3 (no food included). A portion of proceeds will benefit Desert Foothills Theater.
