Kiwanis invests in student artists

This spring Kiwanis begins its 15th year of encouraging local students with interest and talent in the visual arts to apply for its Art Internships. This internship gives high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors the chance to take a summer course at the Scottsdale Artists’ School.

The winners attend to the course of their choice, one class a week for four weeks in June and July.

These are adult courses and provide accelerated learning. The winning students return to their school community and share what they have learned from the experience with their fellow students and art teachers.

They also attend a Kiwanis luncheon to show the members what they have created in their classes. The students, parents and art teachers fill out applications that can be found on the local Kiwanis website www.kiwaniscarefree.org or from CSHS art teacher Ms. Deborah Wales.

You may contact Kiwanis facilitator and local artist Virginia Brooks at 480-220-6696 if you have questions. Students attending any school or home schooled in the CCUSD area may apply. All three completed applications are due by Friday, April 1, 2016.

Winners will be recognized at the “Celebration of Arts” ceremony at Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center in May.
