Rural/Metro thanks communities for best toy drive ever

CAREFREE – Last Friday, Rural/Metro firefighters were busy sorting all the toy donations received, as more continued arriving.

This photo demonstrates, once again, how generous the communities of Carefree and Cave Creek are.

Rural/Metro firefighters, led by their community liaison Captain Kevin Eden, working with lists provided by the Foothills Food Bank, have gathered enough toys to provide for 300 children in our north Valley area, plus the children of the employees of the Buffalo Chip Saloon and Steakhouse who are out of work after the devastating Thanksgiving Day fire.

In addition to the mountain of toys the firefighters collected, over $6,000.00 in cash was also received, which will be used to purchase gift cards for the older children. Any leftover cash will go through the Foothills Food Bank to provide local families with other necessary services during the holiday season.

Chief John Kraetz said, “We asked the community to step up this year and they certainly did! We are going to be able to exceed our wildest projections as far as being able to provide a little Christmas cheer to those less fortunate than us. My entire staff wants to say a huge thank you to the citizens of our local communities for making this the best toy drive we’ve ever had!”
