Cave Creek seeks to fix inequities of consolidated court agreement

CAVE CREEK – Call to the Public brought Lester Rechlin to the podium on Monday night to say council was making a mistake by selectively enforcing the town’s zoning code.

He referred to an editorial in Sonoran News about Tom Lehman, whose property was the subject of his comments and claimed the town was allowing Lehman to blade the desert in violation of the zoning code without a permit.

Cave Creek Business Owner sentenced to prison for misappropriating more then $860,000 in Federal Payroll Taxes that had been withheld from employees

PHOENIX – Today, David Leon Barker, Jr., 51, of Cave Creek, Ariz., was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge James A. Teilborg to 15 months in prison for failing to remit to the IRS the federal payroll taxes he had withheld from his employees’ paychecks. Barker previously pleaded guilty to Willful Failure to Pay Over Taxes.

Douglas CBP Officers seize $253K in marijuana
Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two people in separate incidents Nov. 4 at the Raul Hector Castro (RHC) Port of Douglas, and seized just more than 506 pounds of marijuana. Officers arrested Yaneli Denisse Valencia-Gallardo, 32, of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, after finding more than 274 pounds of marijuana, worth more than $137,000, hidden throughout her Ford SUV.

21 smugglers arrested, 40 eluded capture, 1737 pounds of marijuana seized

The morning of Nov. 5, Pinal County Sheriff’s detectives worked with the U.S. Border Patrol in the western desert of Pinal County to interdict and seize 1737 pounds of marijuana and arrest 21 drug smugglers from Mexico.

Grand Canyon State home to nearly 3.3 million voters

Phoenix – The latest voter registration figures have been released and according to Secretary of State Michele Reagan, the number of registered voters has grown to 3,299,906, an increase of 47,219 since the last report in July. 

Of the state's 3.29 million voters, 34 percent are Republicans, 28 percent are Democrats and 36 percent have either registered with independent parties or not designated a party preference.

DEA executes warrants on Arizona Indian Reservation

PHOENIX – Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Doug Coleman recently announced the execution of federal arrest warrants stemming from a federal grand jury indictment of a methamphetamine trafficking organization operating in the Colorado River Indian Tribes Indian Reservation. Eleven subjects have been taken into custody and additional arrests are anticipated.
