Three “old friends” on new schedule bloc

strutting falconWINSLOW, AZ – “I was standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona … such a fine sight to see!” No, Coach Mike Hudnutt’s 2015 Falcons weren’t standing on any corners – they were workin’ hard at their annual Football Camp, before coming home to start two-a-day practices prior to the first school bell at Cactus Shadows, Thursday, Aug. 6.

Then the Blue-and-White raptors will have only two weeks before Friday, Aug. 21, when they’ll make the scenic drive up to (Cottonwood) Mingus for their season opener. The always-tough “Marauders” will be an even tougher test on their home turf.

Week #2 won’t be any easier, as the ‘Birds will hit the road again, this time to take on the Apollo “Hawks,” one of three holdovers from last year on the A.I.A.’s new two-year scheduling bloc. (Paradise Valley and Notre Dame, the other two).

For their other three away games the Falcons will bus to Moon Valley (Sept. 10), North Canyon (Oct. 16) and their “very best friends” at Shadow Mountain (Oct. 23).

The Falcons will finally taste “home cookin’” Friday evening, Sept. 4, when they open their Falcon Stadium home schedule against the visiting Ironwood Eagles.

Falcon fans and students will get a “double treat” on Friday, Oct. 30, when arch-rival Notre Dame arrives for the rare combination of Homecoming and Senior Night, hopefully providing the Falcs with enough incentive to “trick” the Saints on Halloween Eve!

Starting Wednesday, July 22, Sonoran News, for the 10th consecutive preseason, will be pleased to publish a “Senior Profile” and companion photo on each of the 22 football seniors.
The returning “Senior Leadership” should provide Coach Hudnutt and his staff with the foundation for a successful season.
