The 15th Anniversary “Save a Place in Your Heart” celebration is the nonprofit’s first major event of the New Year. Executive Director Debbra Determan, who has overseen the Caring Corps since 2006, invites the community to learn more about it’s history, achievements, expansive programs and continued services for elderly neighbors throughout North Scottsdale, North Phoenix, Carefree and Cave Creek.

Decorated program booths manned by current volunteers will showcase the valuable services that have developed over the years. They will feature: Pet Visiting, the Medical Equipment Loan Closet, Medical Transportation and Grocery Shopping, Mobile Meals, Home Repair/Business and Computer Help, Friendly Visits and Caregiver Relief, and the Van Transportation Program.

A vital asset to the area’s elderly population, the Foothills Caring Corps was initially conceived and nurtured by Gail Simmons and Father Steven Dart in 1999. A decade later, with the support of local congregations and businesses, the Caring Corps became an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Since then, the Foothills Caring Corps has continued to grow with the monumental help of its dedicated volunteers and it’s signature annual fundraisers, the Fall Golf Tournament and Taste of the Foothills Cash & Caring Raffle.

In 2013-2014, the organization’s 575 volunteers donated more than 42,000 hours to assist 740 residents within Maricopa County. Nearly 7,000 mobile meals were delivered and over 7,300 van trips and medical transports made.

The entire Foothill Caring Corps staff and Board of Directors looks forward to another year of services and new milestones.
