The Pirate Queen is a musical written by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, best known for their adaptation of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon; with co-lyricists John Dempsey and Richard Maltby. This production will be the first time it has been presented in the U.S. since playing on Broadway. It is a beautiful musical adventure full of forbidden love, a forced marriage and the succession of a cheiftain. It is based on the life and adventures of the 16th century Irish pirate Grace O'Malley, who was one of the last Irish clan leaders to resist Queen Elizabeth and the English conquest of Ireland. The cast consists of a mixture of community actors, faculty members and students of all ages.
