Arizona Opera announces casting call for first Mariachi Opera

Local boy needed for role of "Young Rafael"

mariachi operaPHOENIX – Arizona Opera will be holding auditions on May 17 from 12 – 5 p.m. for the role of Young Rafael, the son of Laurentio and Renata.  The role requires a Hispanic boy, between the ages of 7 and 9 years old who can speak both English and Spanish. Previous stage experience is a plus, but is not necessary.

At the audition, applicants should be prepared to do the following:
• Sing their favorite song from memory.
• Tell a story from memory.
• Show different emotions and expressions on command; i.e., showing how they would act "sad", "happy" "surprised", etc.

Once cast, the child will need to be available for all rehearsals and performances in both Phoenix and Tucson (October 6 - 12 and October 17-19), and have a designated chaperone present for all rehearsals and performances. Mileage reimbursement and housing in Tucson (October 17-20) provided to the child and parent/chaperone. An honorarium will be provided to the child as well.
