STAR Center offers scholarship program for children in Arizona with Sensory Processing Disorder

DENVER – STAR (Sensory Therapies And Research) Center, the premier treatment center for children with sensory challenges, is accepting applications for scholarships for children of Arizona families.

STAR Center scholarships provide financial aid to families seeking solutions for their children with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), and other sensory challenges related to Attention Deficit Hypertension Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectral Disorder (ASD) and other behavioral and developmental disabilities.  SPD is a neurological disorder that disrupts the way an individual processes and responds to sensations. A person with SPD usually has difficulty with social interactions, emotion and behavior regulation, and/or motor performance.  SPD affects daily activities and relationships, impairing quality of life for more than 4 million Americans.

Scholarships support therapy at STAR Center, the premier treatment clinic for these disorders, and with an unsurpassed track record.  STAR Center is located in Greenwood Village, a suburb south of Denver.  The scholarship fund will provide full or partial cost of therapy based on financial need.

The STAR Scholarship Fund was started in early 2013 with funding for families from Arizona.  One of the families from Arizona that received a scholarship last summer said, “Receiving a scholarship from the STAR Center has been a life changing experience. STAR Center engages the entire family as a team to encourage and promote the special needs child.” It is hoped that in time, more donors will come forward to support scholarships for families, as insurance often does not cover the treatment.  Therapy for SPD is very individualized and takes time and funding to train the brain how to respond appropriately to sensations.

“Children with SPD have challenges getting through each day,” said Sheryl Benjamin, executive director, STAR Center.  “We are delighted that we can offer this program to help families in this supportive way.”

All applications are processed online at www.starcenterscholarships.org and require that the child be accepted into the therapy program and able to come to STAR Center for therapy.
