SCOTTSDALE – Emotions run high in the intimate Actor’s Café as Desert Stages Theatre presents The Last Five Years, Friday, March 21 – Sunday, May 18.

Jamie and Cathy tell the story of their failed five-year relationship but in an unusual twist, Jamie tells it from the beginning to the end; Cathy tells it from the end to the beginning. Poignantly the timelines intersect in the middle, making it the only time the characters directly interact. Set in the intimate Actor’s Café, this emotionally charged musical drama will move the audience.
The Last Five Years, written by Jason Robert Brown, premiered in Chicago’s Northlight Theatre in 2001 and was produced off-Broadway in 2002. The story was inspired by Brown’s own failed marriage. Brown won Drama Desk Awards for the music and the lyrics after the Off-Broadway premiered in 2002. A film adaptation has been confirmed and is set to release sometime between 2014-2016, starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

The Last Five Years is directed by New York City trained and longtime DST veteran, Andrew Lipman. The show has two casts that alternate weekends in the Actor’s Café and are named after streets in lower Manhattan. The Delancey Cast is comprised by Jimmy Shoffman, playing Jamie Wellerstein and Leigh Treat portraying Catherine Hiatt. The Barrow Cast includes Edgar Torrens as Jamie Wellerstein and Barkley Romero playing Catherine Hiatt.
