Wednesday Jan. 1, 2014 was a nice day to reflect on hopes for the New Year.

Dec. 31, 2013 however was a disaster. We were on a shortened week, as we were on Christmas, had to have everything to our printer by 6 p.m. and were in a rush. The process is an intellectual one and mistakes happen more often when there are distractions.

You can’t fix bad judgment (or stupidity)

Lest you forget, let’s take a quick walk through the last 6 months of 2013 and remember that this is reality. You just can’t make this stuff up.

In their first act as sitting councilmen in June, Trenk, Durkin, Spitzer and Monachino tried the slimiest of tricks by trying to hire Trenk’s buddy, Rodney Glassman as interim town manager with the same motion used to fire Mr. Abujbarah – no other candidates, no discussion, no resume, no due diligence, no nothing. That appalling example of bad judgment was nothing compared to what was about to come.

Un-transforming America

?I always considered Barack Obama an empty suit, a coffeehouse communist, doomed to replay the tragic political and economic mistakes of the past because he lacked any sense of history beyond the clichés of fashionable and comfortable college Marxism.

Let’s make one New Year’s resolution

?The holidays, wow! No matter your expectations, or whether reality even remotely matched the wistfully recalled moments of pure childhood thrill that fueled again the hope that this Holiday would be perfect. You are probably, like most of us, glad to get back to the business of facing the new year, and making darn sure that 2014 is the year that all those resolutions will become reality.
