Public comment invited on proposed Categorical Exclusion for Wildlife Habitat and Rehabilitation Project

MESA – Public comment is being sought by Tonto National Forest officials on a Categorical Exclusion (CE) proposal to rehabilitate and make improvements to areas on the Mesa Ranger District that are primarily used for Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) recreation. 

The project is located along four heavily-used forest roads on the Mesa Ranger district, Tonto National Forest, in Maricopa and Pinal counties.

The public comment period begins Friday, Dec. 20 and ends at close of business (4:30 p.m.) on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.

Copies of the proposed action can be found on the Tonto National Forest website. Copies of the proposed action are available at the Mesa District Ranger administrative office. 

Mail and e-mail comments will be accepted. The deadline for submitting comments is Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 4:30 p.m.   Comments may be mailed or hand-delivered (M-F, 8 am – 4:30 pm) to:

Only those who provide comment or otherwise express interest in the proposed action during the comment period will be eligible to appeal. In order to appeal, each individual or representative from each organization submitting comments must either sign the comments or verify identity upon request.

Comments received in response to this solicitation, including names and addresses of those who comment, will be considered part of the public record and will be included in the final project record.  Comments submitted anonymously will be accepted and considered; however, those who submit anonymous comments will not have standing to appeal the decision. 

Copies of the proposed action, documentation of the evaluation used for the Categorical Exclusion, and additional information about the proposed action can be obtained from the Mesa Ranger District administrative office.
