phoenix herpetological societyPhoenix Herpetological Society (PHS) Fall Adoption Day Event will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at PHS sanctuary in north Scottsdale (appointment required). A full 2-3 hour tour of the sanctuary is also scheduled for 11 a.m. See 1700 animals on 2.5 acres! Each year PHS takes in several hundred abandoned, abused, injured and unwanted reptiles, many of them pet trade animals. Without PHS most of these animals would be euthanized since their captive care is very specialized and requires a long-term commitment.

The adoption day is being held to encourage the public to consider adoption rather than purchasing from a retail pet store and practice responsible pet ownership.

The event will feature educational assistance, tips, and advice on proper captive reptile care. Experts will be on hand to answer questions, assist in proper care and habitat set-up, and help determine which reptile will best fit a particular lifestyle or family. Discounted supplies will be available for purchase in addition to a rehoming fee.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the animals available for adoption including red-tailed boas, ball pythons, corn snakes, box turtles and African-spurred Sulcata tortoises. Reservations are required for the adoption event. Visit www.phoenix herp.com or call 480-513-HERP.

Reservations are required for the sanctuary tour. Adults $15, Kids and Seniors $10. Limited number of reservations available. PHS is located near the intersection of Scottsdale Road and the 101.
