Arizona Community Foundation awards $6.9 Million during 2nd quarter

PHOENIX—The Arizona Community Foundation is pleased to announce its grant and scholarship distributions for the second quarter of its 2014 fiscal year. Between July 1 and Sept. 30, 2013, $6,877,052 was awarded in both discretionary and donor advised grants in the areas of Quality Education, Health Innovations, Arts & Culture, Community Improvement & Development, and Environment & Sustainability.

Fall Festival at WestWorld

Highlands Church presents Fall Festival at WestWorld – a free event open to all filled with carnival games, inflatable games, music, hayrides, live animal exhibits, popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones. Thousands will gather on the polo fields of WestWorld in Scottsdale on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 5 – 8 p.m. dressed in their favorite costumes at this safe family-friendly event. All games are free and kids receive candy just for playing, win or lose.

Fostering children a personal mission

Kris Jacober, who grew up in Detroit, has lived in the Valley for many years.  She and her husband Joe were married in 1985 and are empty nesters.  They have three biological young adult children: Bo, age 22, works for an advertising agency in New York City; Jenna, 24, is a third grade schoolteacher in the Paradise Valley district; and Katie, 26, a nurse at Phoenix Children's Hospital.  Bo and Jenna are single; Jenna's getting married next September.  Kris and Joe have dedicated their lives to the 15 foster children they've cared for during the past 12 years.

Arizona hunters deserve recognition for voluntarily reducing lead exposure to California condors

PHOENIX – Hunters in Arizona have proven their long-held commitment to wildlife conservation by voluntarily working to reduce the amount of lead exposure to endangered California condors, and the Arizona Game and Fish Department is encouraging all hunters to join the effort this fall.

The North Valley Regional Library is hosting an exhibit of the 2013 Mountains of the Land Trust Photo Contest winning entries October 28-November 1. The display will be set up directly outside the library’s study rooms.
