PHOENIX – The Rotary Club of Anthem awarded scholarships to six North Valley high school students for academic excellence.

Scholarship recipients included Kandace Erin Donaldson, Alec Gordon, Andrea Olson and Taylor Pondy, seniors at Boulder Creek High School, and Kathryn Fike and Tyler Lee Lebhart, seniors at Sandra Day O'Connor High School. Each received a $1000 scholarship to support full-time enrollment at any accredited, community college, four-year college or university, trade, vocational or proprietary school for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Rotary Club of Anthem sought applicants from the two public high schools serving Anthem, and any Anthem senior attending a private or parochial high school in the region. Applicants submitted information on their community involvement and extracurricular activities; each wrote an essay based on the principles of Rotary International. Grade point averages as well as advanced placement and honors courses were part of the evaluation process used by the Scholarship Committee.

"Thank you to the many talented high school seniors who applied this year. We were impressed with the credentials of all applicants. On behalf of the Rotary Club of Anthem, we wish all graduating seniors great success in their future endeavors" said scholarship committee chair, Rick Nollenberger.
