Runners and walkers are cleared for landing at the inaugural Run the Runway 5K Run/Walk at Scottsdale Airport on Saturday, April 6. Races begin at 8:30 a.m. Participants will have a unique opportunity to run or walk down the actual runway. This event is an opportunity to invite the community to the airport as well as benefit a non-profit organization Playworks .

We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of all our airport tenants and users during this event and the morning closure of the runway.

The runway and taxiways will be closed to host this event from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 6. We'll work with the event organizer to reopen the runway and taxiways as expeditiously as possible.

Early event preparations will begin on Friday, April 5 with set-up of barrier fencing and drop off of equipment.

The schedule for Saturday morning is as follows:

* 5:30 a.m. - Event set-up begin. Ramp area in front of the airport terminal to the taxiway will be utilized for event. The vendors, race equipment and food suppliers will be utilizing the vehicle gate to unload.
* 7:00 a.m. - Runway and taxiways closure
* 8:30 a.m. - Races begin.
* At the end of all races, a clean-up and runway inspection will ensue and the runway will be re-opened by noon.

Proceeds from the event will benefit a national nonprofit organization called Playworks, which improves school climate, reduces bullying, promotes fitness and increases student engagement in school through physical activity. Along with fundraising for a good cause and general wellness, this event offers participants a unique venue and promotes the airport and airpark to the community.
