CAVE CREEK – The 60th annual Parada del Sol parade, held February 9 in downtown Scottsdale, Ariz., presented first place for the Best Overall entry to the Cave Creek Merchants and Events Association (CCMEA) and Wild West Days. The entry, entitled “A Salute to the Fallen,” featured 35 horses and riders accompanied by an antique hearse pulled by two Friesians. It was one of 113 total parade entries.

Leslie Jensen of Cave Creek-based Farm Bureau Insurance Company says the tribute read as follows;

“Many have lost their lives while fighting for our country. Each rider less horse represents one of the five branches of our military. The boots set backwards symbolizes a soldier that will ride no more. The carriage following the riders signifies the important task of bringing a brave spirit safely home after a long journey. Even in modern times, the devoted strength of a horse is to take a fallen spirit to their final resting place.”
