CAREFREE – Councilman Jim Van Allen notified Sonoran News Tuesday evening that he had resigned from the Carefree Town Council, effective immediately.

Van Allen’s letter, which he hand delivered to Town Clerk Betsy Wise, stated, “Due to both health issues and personal reasons, I hereby submit my resignation as an elected town councilman, town of Carefree.

“This resignation is effective as of this date, July 31, 2012 and hand delivered to your office.”

Citing non-life-threatening health issues and “other reasons” for his resignation, which he said will remain private “for now,” Van Allen also sent out a public thank you to the citizens of Carefree (see Van Allen’s letter in the letters section) for their support in making him the first council member in the town’s history to be elected as a write-in candidate.

While serving 13 months of his two-year term, Van Allen has worn an “I Love Carefree” button every day.

He said, “I still do,” and vowed, as a private Carefree citizen, he will continue to look for ways to add value to the town.
