CAVE CREEK – Town hall has been flooded with correspondence expressing opposition to the Enchanted Canyon Resort general plan amendment, rezoning and special use permit applications.

According to Councilman Dick Esser, as of Monday morning, he had received over 40 e-mails, all in opposition to the project.

At 11:08 a.m. on Monday, Planning Director Ian Cordwell received a two-sentence letter from Attorney Wendy Riddell on behalf of the applicant that read: “This correspondence requests a continuance of the above referenced items to a date to be determined. Additionally, we would like to withdraw the special use permit that accompanied this application.”

Since the Enchanted Canyon project was the only item on Thursday’s planning meeting agenda, the town issued a notice that the April 19 planning commission meeting has been canceled.

On April 18, Cordwell responded to Riddell’s request, stating any continuances to a date certain need to be brought to the planning commission for a determination.

Cordwell went on to say, “Since your letter does not indicate a request for a continuation to a date certain and you have indicated you are withdrawing the special use permit, we have canceled the April 19, 2012 planning commission meeting. Any future applications submitted to the town will need to go through the town’s processes and procedures in place at the time of the application.”
