Desert Foothills Land Trust guided hikes

P.A. Seitts Preserve at Go John Canyon - Sat. Jan. 21, 9 a.m. Join Preserve Stewards for a guided hike at the Land Trust's largest preserve. Hikers will explore the Legacy, Menk and Military trails, with spectacular views of the surrounding mesas and mountains. This is a moderate hike on good trails.

H.B. Wallace Preserve on Lone Mountain - Sat. Jan. 28, 9 a.m. Join Preserve Stewards for a guided hike to the summit of Lone Mountain. This property is privately owned and protected by a conservation easement. It is not open to the public, so this is a unique opportunity to visit this beautiful preserve! The hike is moderately difficult with an elevation change of approximately 250 feet.

Sierra Vista Sanctuary – Sat. Feb. 4, 9 a.m.  Hikers will explore the back side of Continental Mountain and part of Willow Springs Wash. This property is privately owned and protected by a conservation easement.  It is not open to the public, so this is a unique opportunity to visit this special place.  The hike is rather difficult and largely off-trail, with several hundred feet of elevation change.

Saguaro Hill Preserve - Sat. March 17, 9 a.m. Join Preserve Stewards for a guided visit to this beautiful preserve adjacent to the Desert Foothills Library. Tour the Rudolph Memorial Gardens to learn about xeriscaping and native plants, and then explore the loop trail through brittlebush, stately saguaros and other native plants.  Views of Black Mountain and the mesas and mountains to the north are fabulous!  This is a relatively easy hike with one steep hill climb at the very start of the trail. 

More hikes are being scheduled, including hikes to the Preserve at the Cave, so please check the Land Trust’s website at www.dflt.org/hikes.php for the latest information. Registration for guided hikes is required. Please e-mail the Land Trust at [email protected] at least one day before the hike with the number of people who would like to attend. This allows the Land Trust to share the meeting location, directions, special instructions or cancellations with you.
