Creating art greatest joy for one Valley Artist

marg nellsenMarg Nelssen has pursued architecture and teaching, politics and desert preservation. But her greatest joy is creating art.

“I love working big,” Nelssen explained. “My assemblage pieces are heavy, bulky and sharp. I keep promising myself that one day I’ll be disciplined to work smaller, lighter and less sharp!”

Her non-traditional mosaics are diverse and include everything from wall pieces and mirrors to boots and crosses. And this year Nelssen is introducing a series of small oil paintings inspired by a 2700 mile solitary road trip she recently completed.

“Hidden in the Hills is by far the best tour of its kind,” Nelssen said. “It’s a long show lasting over two long weekends. But it really is worth all the work. People enjoy interacting with artists and seeing the studios. And best of all as artists we get valuable feedback from them.”

The 15th Annual Hidden in the Hills Artist Studio Tour is scheduled the last two weekends in November: Friday-Sunday, Nov. 18-20 and Friday-Sunday, Nov. 25-27, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
