Running of the Bulls – Cave Creek

CAVE CREEK – Phil Immordino brought the first Running of the Bulls event to the United States in July 1998.

The event has been held in Mesquite, Nev. in 1998 and 1999 and in Scottsdale in 2002, bringing 10,000 spectators and 800 runners to each event.

Immordino’s special event application to hold a Running of the Bulls event in Cave Creek on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14 and 15 on T.C. Thorstenson’s property on the south side of Cave Creek Road next to Foothills Granite was recently approved by the town.

And, Immordino announced the upcoming event on July 5, to correspond with the first day of the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

While Thorstenson will be coming before the planning commission Thursday, July 21 for a site plan review to develop an event arena and bar on his property, it doesn’t appear the project will be permitted, let alone completed, by the date of the event.

According to Immordino, the event is much like the running of the bulls in Spain with bulls running down a road with people in front of them.

Immordino said, “This will be the most exciting bull run ever with more bulls, tighter track and runners will have the thrill of a lifetime.”

The site plan for the event indicates the bulls will be contained on Thorstenson’s property. They will not be running down Cave Creek Road.
