Humana Names Charles Cox, M.D. as Regional Vice President and Market Medical Officer
PHOENIX — May 16, 2011 — Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has named Charles Cox, M.D., M.P.H., M.M.M., as the health care company’s vice president and market medical officer for its commercial operations in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and Utah.
In this Phoenix-based role, Dr. Cox is responsible for leading the company’s clinical initiatives in the states above, including wellness, all care management, clinical program strategic initiatives, medical utilization trend management and benefit coverage issues.
Dr. Cox brings 17 years in physician executive leadership positions to the role, including significant experience in medical management consulting, integrated health delivery systems, and in the commercial, senior and public sector environments. He most recently served at CarePlus Health Plan, Inc. in Miami as vice president and chief medical officer – senior products.
Dr. Cox has degrees from the University of Arizona, the University of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon University. His clinical credentials include family medicine at the Medical College of Virginia and occupational and preventive medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
