One year later: This sick healthcare legislation needs to be taken off life support

rep. daivid schweikertWASHINGTON – Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) released the following statement today on the one-year anniversary of President Obama signing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law:

“It has been one year since the most egregious and over-reaching legislation in U.S. history was signed into law. A year ago, despite the wishes of the American people, President Obama and Congressional Democrats enacted a bill they promised would “bend the cost curve” of medical care and “create 4 million jobs—400,000 jobs almost immediately.”

“The reality of these broken promises could not be further from the truth. Today, we see the painful results emerging from the 2,800 pages of ironically-titled legislation. And they aren’t pretty.

“In the toughest economy our nation has faced in a generation, this government takeover of health care empties taxpayers’ pockets for over $670 billion in new taxes and counting.

According to the Congressional Budget Office’s latest estimates, struggling American families and small businesses are footing an increasing $1.45 trillion price tag.

“But the American people know there is a much better way. This is why our first order of business this Congress was to repeal ObamaCare, H.R. 2, in its entirety. Shortly after that, the House passed funding restrictions to severely limit the president's ability to implement this job-killing legislation.

“House Republicans have pledged to replace this misguided legislation with common sense solutions that reduce costs, make health care more accessible, and will not hurt our economy by destroying jobs. Thanks to the voice of the American people, this fight is not yet over.”
