Sand Springs, Oklahoma blanks CSHS, 6-0, to take home "Spring Classic" title

GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY – March 16. When a high school baseball squad travels 2,000 miles round trip by team bus to play in a spring tournament that means nothing to their regular season, they deserve to win. And by golly, that's exactly what the "Sandites" from Sand Springs, Oklahoma did – to the delight of their approximately 100 fans who loyally followed them to The Valley for the March 11-16 "Spring Classic." In Sand Springs, just outside Tulsa, they love their "Sandites," who responded by shutting out the not-so-sharp Falcons, 6-0, behind a five-hit route job by righthander Justin Burgess and a "small ball" bunt offense that had the Falcon defense on its heels. 10-9 thriller over Thunderbird sends Falcons into March 16 “Spring Classic”

Finals vs. Sand Springs, Okla. at Grand Canyon University, 7 p.m. first pitch

PHOENIX – On Tuesday, March 15, trailing 8-9 and down to their last three at-bats, the “wouldn’t quit” Falcons rallied for two runs to break the hearts of the Thunderbird Chiefs, 10-9. The dramatic win sends the ‘Birds into the “Spring Classic” championship game against Sand Springs, Okla. at Grand Canyon University, Wednesday evening, 7 p.m. first pitch.    Keep Reading...

CSHS – March 15 – After a fielding disaster in their regular season opening loss (6-14) at Raymond Kellis (March 3) and a relief pitching meltdown (5-13) at home (March 8) against Sunrise Mountain, this writer thought Head Coach Spencer Grace was singing in the shower when he looked for “momentum” from his Falcons’ appearance in the March 11-March 16 “Spring Classic” at Sunnyslope (first four games) and Greenway (March 15).   Keep Reading...
