Residents invited to share vision for Shea Character Area Plan

Residents are invited to register for a workshop to share their vision for a geographic region defined as the Shea Character Area plan.Ý There are two opportunities to attend:Ý Wednesday, Feb. 9, 8:30 ñ 10:30 a.m. at the city Corporation Yard, Wrangler Room, 9191 E. San Salvador; or Thursday, Feb. 10, 6:15 ñ 8:15 p.m. at Mountain View Community Center, 8625 E. Mountain View Road. Attendees will be asked about the future of this area and to define its current strengths and weaknesses.Ý Those wanting to attend are asked to register at ScottsdaleAZ.gov/planning/areaplans/ CAPshea. The Shea Character Area encompasses 22,000 acres in central Scottsdale.Ý The area is generally bordered by Indian Bend Road on the south, the CAP Canal and the McDowell Sonoran Preserve to the north and city boundaries on the east and west.ÝÝ It represents the most populated section of the city ñ home to about 40 percent of the cityís population. Well-established neighborhoods and commercial developments are found throughout the area and add to its appeal and identity.Ý All major sectors of Scottsdaleís economy are well represented in the area, including the hospitality industry, financial services, business services, research and development and health care. Character Area Plans are part of the General Plan, which is a collective vision for how residents want their community to evolve during the next 10 to 20 years.Ý The General Plan recommends character area planning as a way to define, maintain and/or enhance a desired ìcharacterî for a specific area and to maintain the quality of planning and development in Scottsdale.
