CAVE CREEK – Mark your calendar to attend one of the Valley’s most exciting charity events, the Wayne Wilson Children’s Charity Rodeo and Carnival, Friday, Oct. 8 through Monday, Oct. 11 in Cave Creek.

Presented by the Desert Foothills Community Association (DFCA), the second annual event kicks off Friday, Oct. 8 when the gates open at 4 p.m. The action begins at 5:30 p.m. with the Pro Tour FMX Motocross exhibition, mutton bustin’, bull riding and carnival rides at Cave Creek Memorial Arena, 37201 N. 28th Street. The arena remains open until 10 p.m. At 10 p.m., David Allan Coe will headline a concert at Harold’s Corral, 6895 E. Cave Creek Road, in Cave Creek.

On Saturday, Oct. 9, the arena opens its gates at noon for an action packed day. The rodeo competition featuring top-ranked Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and Women’s Professional Rodeo Association contestants gets underway at 7 p.m. In addition, the Outlaw Annie Mounting Shooting competition will be held from 4 – 5 p.m. The carnival rides run until 10 p.m. Harold’s will host a rodeo dance at 9 p.m. that evening. The admission for the dance is $5 with the proceeds benefiting DFCA and its charities.

On Sunday, Oct. 10, the arena again opens at noon and remains open through 10 p.m. for rodeo performances (2 p.m.), the mutton bustin’ finals and carnival activity. During the three day event, there also will be exhibitions and free McGruff the Crime Dog SafePrinting. The carnival company will offer all-day passes for its rides.

A $5 admission to the arena covers the exhibitions, shows and rodeos. Parking is only $1 with a canned food donation for Foothills Food Bank or $3 without. Family four-packs will be offered at a pre-sale savings and include 12 carnival ride tickets. The carnival company will sell wristbands for unlimited access to the rides. There will be no parking or gate fee on Monday, Oct.11 (a holiday) for families to enjoy the carnival rides only.

The Wayne Wilson Children’s Charity Rodeo and Carnival is an annual event that supports the needs of the youth in our community while promoting education and outdoor sports. The DFCA proudly produces events that promote and preserve the western heritage of our community, the State of Arizona and the USA. All proceeds from the Wayne Wilson Children’s Charity Rodeo and Carnival support local charities including the Wayne Wilson Scholarship Fund. The event is named in honor of Wayne Wilson, Cave Creek’s former “rodeo boss,” who believed every child deserves the opportunity to become successful and have a better life than his or her parents.
