On Friday morning, Sept. 10 the CSHS courtyard celebration of Head Football Coach Chad DeGrenier’s award as Sept. 3 “Coach of the Week” was the near-perfect punctuation to the Falcons 27-10 first ever home victory over Greenway the previous evening.   Keep Reading...

Here come the Matadors!

shadow mountain matadorsShadow Mountain High School
Location: Shea Blvd., two blocks west of 32nd St.
Nickname: Matadors
Colors: Navy Blue & Gold
Head Coach: Mike Giovando (last season, Offensive Coordinator at Desert Mtn)
This season: Oct. 3 (A) SMHS, 27 - ÑD, 34; Oct. 10 (H) SMHS, 14 - Queen Creek, 34
Players to watch: #4 Zaquoya Parham (SR, QB/DB); #5 Ian Juede (SR, WR/DB); #8 Wesley Sorensen (SR, TE/DL); #11 Steven Lindquist (SR, WR/DB); #20 Anthony Snyder (SR, RB/OLB); #33 Jordan Burnett (SR, RB); #54 Ian Talbot (SR, LB); #82 Erwin Jones (SR, WR/DB)
Last season (H) vs. Falcons: More than one Matador “fell on his own (mistake-prone) sword,” as Falcs made the runaway “kill,” 53-7.
This season at Falcons: Matadors, especially #5 Ian Juede, remember the embarrassment all-too-well, and they’ll be hungry for their first win of this season. Watch out, Falcons! After two tough opponents, Cienga and Greenway, don’t let Shadow Mountain become a “trap” game by looking ahead to PV (A), Sept. 24.
What Falcons must do to win: Defensive Coordinator Matt Bradshaw, “Shadow Mountain is very athletic. But if we do our job – Assignment, Alignment, Technique – we’ll be all right.” Offensive Line Coach Jerry Boat: “Their defenses would indicate that our wide receivers could have big games.”
Crow’s prediction: Falcons may lollygag from complacency in the 1st half; but too much Bryce Kinsler-to-John Leonard firepower and a better-conditioned “D” in the 2nd will seal the deal, say, 41-17. “Caw! Caw! Caw!”
