CSHS – Varsity (Head Coach Mike Baker, Assistant Coaches Theron Brockish and George Lyle), 13-6, #7 seed at State; JV(Coach Frankie Pena), 16-4; and Freshmen (Coach Steve Scarpulla), 18-2: combined, 47 wins, 12 losses. That record bears out Coach Baker’s commitment “to building a winning baseball program at Cactus Shadows.”

Coaches, players and families from all three teams celebrated Sunday evening, May 16, at Baseball’s Awards Banquet, with former ASU Head Coach Pat Murphy the on-target motivational speaker. Coach Baker first announced Desert Sky All-Region awards: Pitcher of the Year, Co-Captain Jaron Long; 1st Team: Logan Davis, Brent Nurre; 2nd Team: Connor Sabanosh, Ryan Nemger; Honorable Mention: Nick Francis, Joey Ford.

Next came the Team Awards (in order presented): Teammate Award, senior Brandon Decker; Student Scholarship Award, senior A.J. Zygutis; Captain’s Award, junior Co-Captain Charlie Dominick; Most Outstanding Player, senior Logan Davis; and Most Valuable Player, Co-Captain Jaron Long. Congratulations, Guys!

In my Cactus Shadows Baseball memories, I’ve proudly logged in your six-in-a-row comeback at the end of the regular season, B.C. (“before Cole,” as in “Jake Cole.”). Coach Baker is already excited about his Varsity Falcons in 2011. So am I!
