Big Bronco’s big bash to celebrate ten years!

CAVE CREEK – Big Bronco is celebrating its ten year anniversary in true Cave Creek style with “Beneath the Western Sky.” Customers, good friends and neighbors are invited to the barn-raising open house starting Friday night, April 30. Western-themed events take place all weekend at 6602 E. Cave Creek Road, right in the heart of Cave Creek.

Award-winning artist Joni Harms will kick off the weekend with an evening serenade. Saturday at noon “Cowgirls Forever” will prepare authentic chuck wagon style food over open fire pits. Kids will be entertained by a trick pony named Dusty ridden by Gary, “The Singing Cowboy.”

Arizona Equine Rescue Organization and Luv Shack Ranch are the designated beneficiaries of the weekend events. Colorado, the “flying horse” will appear at noon.

Sunday at noon Luv Shack Ranch will be on hand offering free horse rides to children accompanied by an adult.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating 10 in 2010 – clearly 10 is our lucky number,” said proprietor Faith Weinberg. “We wanted to do something extra special to celebrate this milestone and thank our friends whose loyal support made this birthday possible. Checks and contests part of Horny Toad tradition

CAVE CREEK - The Horny Toad is a Cave Creek institution. Everyone knows of its tasty menu, from BBQ chicken, ribs and steaks to that highly acclaimed Strawberry Shortcake. Neighbors love the Horny Toad! In return, its owners, the Price family, like to give back to their community.

In February, the restaurant was the location for a sports memorabilia silent auction. The recipient of proceeds was the Foothills Food Bank. Owner Jeffrey L. Price and son Tom Price were both on hand on April 7 to present a $780 check to Pam DiPietro, executive director of the food bank.

BBB warns iPad scammers are already at work

PHOENIX – Even before the iPad was released to the public, scammers were busy devising ways to take advantage of early adopters. Better Business Bureau warns eager shoppers to stay away from offers to become a “tester” just to get a free iPad.

Apple announced the iPad in January and U.S. customers were able to pre-order in March for the April release. Because Apple bumped the delivery date for later orders, rumors started circulating that the company did not have enough iPads to meet pre-order demand.

 “Unfortunately, it was inevitable that scammers would take advantage of the excitement over the iPad to rip people off,” said BBB President/CEO Matthew Fehling. “Recent bogus offers claim you can become a tester or researcher and get an iPad for free. This is a deal that sounds, and definitely is, too good to be true.”
Tech Web site GeekSugar.com recently warned about spam emails requesting product testers for the iPad. The e-mail directs to the Web site Testitandkeepit.com which claims that they are looking for people to test the iPad for a couple months, as compensation you get to keep the iPad. Testitandkeepit.com was recently taken down but BBB fears similar sites still exist. The biggest red flag with this offer is that you have to provide your email address and password in order to “tell your friends.” 

Offers to become a tester on Facebook also cropped up but with a different intent. As software company Sophos explains in an online video, the Facebook page “iPad Researchers Wanted—Get an iPad Early and Keep It” was designed to trick people into signing up for a cell phone subscription service that cost $10 a month. Sophos alerted Facebook to the page—which had already racked up more than 3,500 fans—and it was taken down, but users should be on the lookout for similar offers.

Not all bogus offers come under the guise of becoming a tester, McAfee reported on their security blog that spam e-mails have landed in inboxes offering free iPads—the catch is that you have to buy items first and provide your credit card number.
If you’re planning to buy an iPad, BBB recommends shopping through an authorized retailer or directly with Apple. Eventually a secondary market for the iPad will spring up online on sites like Craigslist; if you plan on buying an iPad secondhand, purchase it from someone local and never wire money as payment.
