The Lymphoma Research Foundation Arizona Chapter’s Fifth Annual Lymphomathon 5K walk – one of the biggest fundraising events of the year – is part of a nationwide grassroots initiative of the Lymphoma Research Foundation. Walks in 16 cities are expected to raise over $1.6 million this year to support lymphoma research and education programs.

The 5k is to raise awareness of lymphoma and research funds for a cure for the most common blood cancer and the third most common cancer in children. Today, a half a million Americans are affected by some form of lymphoma. It is estimated that there will be about 65,980 new cases of lymphoma in the U.S. in 2009, and about 19,500 people will die from it. Approximately 1,250 people from Arizona will be diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and another 350 will lose their lives in 2009.

On Sunday, Nov. 08 at 7 a.m. - on-site registration begins and at 8 a.m. – 5k Walk Begins at The Phoenix Zoo, 455 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, There is no registration fee to participate. Walkers are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100 in pledges to receive an LRF Lymphomathon t-shirt, and $250 for a tote bag. All donations are fully tax deductible.
