May 13, 2009

PHOENIX – Casey Rice, a senior at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, recently learned he is among students from the Class of 2009 nationwide selected to receive the 2009 Sam Walton Community Scholarship.

Funded by the Wal-Mart Foundation, this is a $3,000 scholarship that will assist Casey with tuition, fees, books, or on-campus room and board during the 2009-2010 academic year.

Casey is “excited to receive this scholarship because during these tough times and the cost of college the Sam Walton Community Scholarship will be put to good use.

“Pursuing a college education would not have been possible without the support of my teachers at Brophy, as well as my mom, who has supported me every step of the way. With the help of scholarships like the Sam Walton Community Scholarship, I am fortunate to be able to attend Vassar College in New York in the fall. After college, I aspire to become an orthopedic surgeon.”

Casey is the son of Richard Rice of Cave Creek and Kelli Rice of Scottsdale.
