Contest entry form available online at www.mcdowellsonoran.org

SCOTTSDALE – More than 40 winners in the 2009 McDowell Sonoran Conservancy (MSC) Focus on Conservation Photo Contest will be selected for publication in MSC’s inaugural exhibit catalog and will see their photographs displayed in Scottsdale throughout the year. The contest only accepts photos taken from April 1 through April 30, 2009 within the Preserve; the deadline for entries is May 15, 2009 at 5 p.m.. Winners will be announced June 1, 2009.

A jury panel will judge the photos on technical merit and their illustration of the rich biodiversity and unique nature of the Preserve. The three top images will be recognized with a monetary prize (grand prize: $500, second place: $250, and third place: $100). Twelve additional images will receive top honors: the best photographs in each of four topic categories will be selected and each category will offer three divisions (advanced, amateur, and youth). The four topic categories are geology, plants and/or animals, human impacts, and recreation. Finally, awards of excellence will be presented to all photographers whose images are selected for inclusion in the printed exhibit catalog.

Photographers are invited to a public “Photo hike” on April 19 for an introduction to the Preserve. Every weekend in April, MSC will offer free, guided hikes for the public both Saturday and Sunday.

There is no cost to enter the contest. Entrants simply complete the entry form, sign it, attach it to the print and deliver it in an envelope with your name clearly printed on the outside. Prints must be accompanied by an online submission of a digital copy at 200 dpi. MSC will mount some entries for public presentation. Prints will not be returned. McDowell Sonoran Conservancy reserves the right to use all photos for any purpose. Photo credit will be provided for each image use.

Submit entries to MSC offices at 16435 North Scottsdale Road, Suite 110, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85254. Contest entry form available online at www.mcdowellsonoran.org.
