Holiday classic performance to be at Cactus Shadows Fine Art Center

CAVE CREEK – Arizona School of Classical Ballet (ASCB), under the direction of Nadya Zubkov, is joining forces with Desert Foothills Theater (DFT), a division of the Foothills Community Foundation, to bring the "Nutcracker & the Mouse King" to the North Valley. The spirited production takes place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19 and on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center, 33606 N. 60th Street.

The Barnabas Society and Arizona Musicfest “Young Musicians Showcase”

SCOTTSDALE – The Barnabas Society and Arizona Musicfest present the second concert in the Young Musicians Showcase series at 7 p.m. on Dec. 12, featuring the Strolling Strings, a unique 24 member string ensemble that delights audiences of all generations. In demand throughout the Valley, the Mesquite High School Strolling Strings have performed at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, the Phoenix Symphony Ball, Banner Health Awards Banquet, Walt Disney World and many other special events.

“The glue that holds us together” says Amber Dudley, Director of Orchestras at Mesquite High School and founder of the Strolling Strings in 1999, “is the pianist, Hanah Vutipadadorn.” Vutipadadorn is the 2008 Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Competition Winner in Division III. While Hanah and her piano will not be strolling through the audience on Friday night because the pianist, bass player and eight cellists stay put, the 14 violins and violas will be moving in choreographed patterns through the hall while they play, making the concert of Sousa, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Beethoven, Borodin, and Holiday tunes that much more fun. 

Subsequent concerts in the series are scheduled for Jan. 23, 2009 and April, 17, 2009, in Lincoln Hall at St. Barnabas in the Desert Episcopal Church, 6715 N. Mockingbird Lane, Scottsdale.  The concerts are open to the public, free of charge.   Each concert will last from 45 minutes to an hour and will be followed by a “Meet the Musicians” reception with refreshments.
