Desert Hills Presbyterian Church greets Scottish guests

By Steele Coddington | October 8, 2008

CAREFREE – Pastor David Cameron and his wife Lesley are visiting the Desert Hills Presbyterian Hills Church in Carefree to confirm and embrace the warm relationship between the two churches that was first established in 2006.

The first contact was through Desert Hills Church member Dick Dietrich in 2006 who went to Scotland to visit an old college friend whom he hadn’t seen in 20 years.  Through several seemingly providential encounters, he ultimately attended a service at Maxwell Mearns Presbyterian Church in Glasgow, which was established about 135 years ago.  It has since been rebuilt on the ancient site of Maxwell Castle.  Mr. Dietrich’s visit resulted in exchange visits by Pastor Cameron’s daughter Lyndsay, who spent a month on missions with Desert Hills Church Youth and a trip by Pastor Jim Noble who went to Scotland to arrange a trip by Desert Hills parishioners in 2007.  That year twenty-two members of the Carefree Church traveled to Scotland and stayed with individual members of Maxwell Mearns Church in Glasgow and Pastor Cameron’s son Mark came to Carefree for three months as an intern.

Pastor Jim Noble describes the close relationship as a valuable and spiritual evangelical exchange between two churches in different countries that are able to share beliefs, information, friendships and missions in a way that enriches the congregations of both churches.  For more information on Desert Hills Presbyterian Church call (480) 488-3384 or visit 32605 N. Tom Darlington Dr. in Carefree.
