Monday last day to register to vote in upcoming election
CCUSD – Monday, Oct. 6 is the last date to register to vote in the Nov. 4 General Election, although early voting begins this week on Thursday, Oct. 2.

The public is encouraged to attend the candidate forum on Monday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the CCUSD Fine Arts Center located at 33606 N. 60th Street.

Because Janet Busbee was the only Cave Creek Unified School District Governing Board candidate running for the remaining two years of resigned board member Stephanie Reese’s four-year term, she will be appointed to office and her name will not appear on the ballot.

Reese’s term would have expired at the end of 2010 along with member Susan Clancy’s term, as the five-member board serves four-year staggered terms, with elections held every two years for two seats during presidential election years and three seats during mid-term elections.

However, that still leaves seven candidates vying for the remaining three four-year terms, two of which are incumbents Javier Ledesma and Casey Perkins, who became one of the three members added to the board when the Christopher Verde Unified School District merged with CCUSD.

Former board member Mark Warren will attempt to recapture his lost seat. Warren sought reelection four years ago. However, after receiving the least number of votes, he failed to win his seat back on the board.

Virgil Cain, who was appointed to the board to fill in the remainder of resigned member Marvin Christensen’s term, is also running.

Three new candidates joining the field, Hugo Di Giulio, Thomas Martin and David Schaefer, create the possibility of four completely new members joining Clancy next year as the board reverts back to a five-member board.
