My View
Tailgating • Judicial Watch • Banks and “weapons”
How many times do people have to be reminded to drive the speed limit and not tailgate?
This burg sports more animal lovers per capita than any city or town in the state and wildlife is at risk while crossing the road.
I drive a two and a half mile segment of Spur Cross Road daily and it is double lined almost the entire way. It is not uncommon that tailgaters, who I believe are in some stage of road rage, pass even though there is good reason for the double lines (it means no passing for the morons that somehow escape logic, or the will to live and let live.)
The road winds and goes from hill to valley. There is no safe passing zone. Sometimes I pull over and let them go on their speeding ways, and sometimes I continue at a steady 35 MPH and let them stew.
Last Saturday as Shari Jo and I were driving Spur Cross Road I noticed a white pick up truck rapidly pulling up to within a car length of my bumper. He hung there as we continued.
As we headed down an incline, a rabbit raced in front of me and I instinctively braked, narrowly missing the racing rabbit.
Fortunately, the tailgater had good reflexes, but nonetheless almost smashed into my rear.
Cut it out people! In that stretch of road you would maybe save a minute or less. You are risking other people, yourself and any wildlife that have no clue about how lethal roadways can be.
In a related complaint, no one should own a dog if they don’t care enough about them to not put them inside their truck. Putting them in the bed of a pickup is inviting serious injury or death to their pet.
Since, thank you Lord, my ready camera rarely sees illegal aliens to photograph, I will be looking for the heartless few that practice dogs hanging on for dear life together with license number.
Judicial Watch
Judicial Watch, the conservative watch dog organization has offered its considerable resources to help Cave Creek defend the lawsuit brought by ACLU and MALDEF.
Judicial Watch already has a presence in Phoenix where they have weighed in against Phoenix in the matter of illegal alien day labor centers.
In case after case Judicial Watch has availed itself of the Freedom of Information act and on the ground investigations to bring all sorts of political chicanery to court. Further, as might be expected, they have been on the other side of ACLU in countless cases.
Judicial Watch Director of Investigations & Research Christopher J. Farrell and Teegan Millspaw met with town officials and town attorneys last week to offer whatever aid might be appropriate.
The town’s defense is led by Gary Birnbaum of Mariscal Weeks. He has a towering legal mind and is a formidable opponent in court. His reputation in Cave Creek was initially built on his success in saving Spur Cross Ranch.
And although I believe Birnbaum is ethical to the core, I worry about his close friendship and support of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon.
Let’s connect the dots.
Judicial Watch is in mortal combat with Gordon over his policies concerning illegal immigration.
If you wonder why Gordon has gone into full-scale attack against Sheriff Joe Arpaio, wonder no more.
He is thinking ahead; thinking about his dream of becoming governor, after Janet Napolitano breathes her last breath in that office.
Who stands in his way? Attorney General Terry Goddard who shares Gordon’s dream.
So, a Democrat primary battle between the two is a given.
Gordon wants the Hispanic vote, and that is why he has become the illegal alien maven.
Will it work? I don’t think so unless illegal aliens vote, which they have in the past. It will be tougher for them to do with the new document requirements.
Hispanics, who did it the right way to become citizens have little love for invading illegals and Gordon’s support of illegals may well backfire.
Obviously Gordon doesn’t believe in the rule of law. Do we need another governor who shares that view? The planned recall of Gordon will fail, but only because he has a political machine in Phoenix that far outweighs the organization of those that would unseat him.
I wish them well, it is a just cause, and I hope I am wrong.
But, I hope to see Gary Birnbaum welcome Judicial Watch with open arms. If he doesn’t, there had better be a damned good reason.
By the way for those of you who contacted us about how to help...start by contributing to Judicial Watch. They are supported by contributions. Their web page address is: www.Judicial Watch.org.
Banks and “weapons”
Linda Bentley’s front page story about Parkway Bank’s newly posted policy of “No Weapons Allowed” stirred a couple of readers to get hysterical.
How dare we print the news? How dare we cite the constitutional right to own and carry firearms?
But what does “weapons” mean?
According to Webster’s dictionary: “An instrument or device of any kind used for fighting, as specifically in warfare.” If you fly, you will find that the friendly TSA government employees include as potential weapons, pen knives, fingernail clippers or files, any sharp object, any bottle of liquid more than 3.5 ounces, etc.
So you gals and guys better empty your purses and pockets before entering Parkway Bank.
We are conducting a survey of the policies of other local banks. Two we have contacted say they don’t allow firearms, no mention of “weapons.”
I suggested to one bank they might consider this a niche market to go after. It fell on deaf years. I would even give a free ad to any bank that stands for constitutional rights, specifically the second amendment to the constitution.
As Linda Bentley pointed out, gun free zones are an invitation to be robbed. So I am keeping my camera ready, together with my .40 caliber Glock.
Outside the bank, of course.
