Beautifies entrance garden

Cave Creek Sculptor, Robert Thornley, presents his sculpture “Nightwind” to DFL Director, Kris Proskus.

CAVE CREEK – Local sculptor Robert Thornley donated one of his favorite sculptures, “Nightwind” to the Desert Foothills Library recently in appreciation of the library over the years.
Nightwind, a pale limestone piece with two heads at the top of its upper curve, depicting a man and woman, now sits in a tiny garden just to the left of the library’s new entrance. The heads of the two people are cradled in the curves of the stone.
Thornley’s piece helps beautifies the entrance of the renovated library just as stone gardens and waterfalls make the back of the recently-completed nearly four million dollar library more beautiful.
“The library has been extremely good to me,” Thornley said about all the books on tape he has enjoyed while driving or sculpting over the years.
Thornley, a self-taught sculptor, began his art career by carving on wood. He later moved on to marble and limestone. His work comes from the heart and he feels the natural forces of wind and water help to shape his pieces.
